Just helping the cause

It seems ironic to me that the first four words to the Second Amendment are "a well regulated militia," yet the most ardent defenders of that amendment are the least amenable to gun control legislation. None appear to be more vocal than the poster boy (and board member) of the NRA, Ted Nugent.

Ol' Ted and God must be really tight as Ted has asserted it's his God-given right to bear arms. Furthermore, he has declared that the young survivors of the Parkland, Fla., shooting and their millions of supporters are liars, "poor mushy-brained children" and "soulless." Apparently, he believes one must own a gun in order to have a soul.

Keep those inane comments coming, Ted. You are doing more to further the cause of gun control than your feeble mind can ever imagine.

FYI: I own guns, just not assault rifles and bump stocks.

Could hospital help?

I read, with wonder, the story in Friday morning's paper about the high court and execution drugs, and said drugs' secrecy. The story relates that executions in the state have halted due to the lack of one of the drugs, a paralytic, because what the state has on hand has expired.

I'm just wondering out loud here, but UAMS and the prison system are both state-run institutions, aren't they? I know for a fact UAMS has a sufficient quantity of said paralytic drug. It is used every time a patient is intubated for surgery or during a code where the patient is in need of a breathing tube.

Why doesn't the prison just get the drugs from the hospital? Better yet, in the prison infirmary, do they not have emergency drugs? I would wager said drug could be found in their emergency med box.

Again, I am just wondering.

Might never be same

Ah, Holy Week. When billions of Christians celebrate the most important single event in human history: the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Other billions ignore, deny or vehemently decry that the resurrection is a myth. Or many are just angry at Christians and Christianity. Why?

Why are atheists, et al., so angry? What has Jesus ever done to harm you? If you're angry because I'm not a perfect Christian, you should have seen what I was before I became a believer. Why not give Jesus a chance? He loves even you, and paid the sin debt for all who will ever repent and trust in him.

Please open the Gospel of John and read it as if for the first time, with no presuppositions. When you open the Bible, say out loud, "God, if you are real and Jesus is the real deal, may I know it in my heart as I read now." You may never be the same.

Give Jesus a chance. Please. He loves you.

Offended by cartoon

As per my right as an American citizen under the First Amendment of our Constitution, I am exercising that right of free speech to protest a cartoon that appeared at the top of the page in the Voices section of Monday morning's beloved Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

I am truly offended by this cartoon and its implications. It makes a totally racist, biased, and inflammatory statement that all police shootings are racially motivated. One simply cannot make such a statement until a completely thorough investigation of each particular shooting is conducted. Many times, other factors, sometimes not reported by the press, are found to be the cause of the shooting.

I believe this cartoon is inflammatory in and of itself, and has no place in a much beloved and respected newspaper such as the Democrat-Gazette. I was stunned and appalled that you allowed such an item to be published within the pages of your newspaper ... disgusted might be a better word!

Fox News = Fix News

I had to laugh while reading Gary Lemon's letter. Anyone who believes that Fox News is legitimate news media has not only drunk the Trump Kool-Aid, they've got it on an IV drip.

Veteran is impressed

I had the pleasure of attending the recent Vietnam Veterans celebration which was held at UALR and sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs. It was a magnificent event. It was particularly an honor for me because I was the oldest Army veteran of Vietnam in attendance.

The oldest member of each of the services was presented a medal and certificate by the governor. I told the governor it was the first time I ever received a medal for being old.

While there I had the pleasure of meeting and talking with Attorney General Leslie Rutledge, Congressman French Hill and state Sen. Missy Irvin. I was impressed that we have individuals such as these representing us. It left me with the feeling that we are in good hands.
