Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy Education and Support Group will meet at 2 p.m. today at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. There will be an educational meeting at 1 p.m. The topic for discussion will be the importance of hydration.

Teachers

The Washington County Retired Teachers Association will meet Monday at Western Sizzlin in Springdale with registration beginning at 11 a.m. and a buffet meal at 11:30 a.m. Members need to bring their volunteer hours sheet to the meeting so Norma Brown will be able to report.

The program will be "The Life of Bees" presented by a University of Arkansas graduate student. Next year's slate of officers will be presented for election. Also bring charitable donations for submission.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will meet for dinner at 6 p.m. and a meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at Foghorns Restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut St. in Rogers.

There is also a meeting offered at 7 p.m. with dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday at Western Sizzlin, 5720 Rogers Ave. in Fort Smith.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization honoring the heritage of those who fought for the United States during the Civil War. The meeting is open to all.

Pieces 'N Patches

Pieces 'N Patches quilt group will meet at 10 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, 1901 S. 26th St. in Rogers. Joanne Conlon will lead a workshop on scrap quilting.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month for programs and at 10 a.m. on the third Monday for workshops. Visitors are welcome.

GOP Women

The Benton County Republican Women's Club will meet at noon Tuesday at Pleasant Crossing Golden Corral in Rogers. Special guests this month will be Arkansas Supreme Court Justice candidates David Sterling, chief counsel for Arkansas DHS, and Kenneth Hixon, Arkansas Court of Appeals judge, and gubernatorial candidate Jan Morgan. Gov. Asa Hutchinson, running for re-election, has also been invited.

BCRW meets the third Tuesday of each month, and guests are welcome. Networking begins at 11:30 a.m.

Democrats

The Northwest Arkansas Senior Democrats will meet at noon Tuesday at the Western Sizzlin in Springdale. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. The speaker for the month will be Joyce Hale, a longtime activist in the community. She is now focused on voter suppression. A major objective has been to promote independent redistricting commissions and removal of partisan influence when drawing political district lines.

Stitched With Love

Stitched With Love is a new group formed for the purpose of sewing quilts, hats and pillows for children at Arkansas Children's Hospital. The first meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 1300 N. Davis St. in Pea Ridge. Bring scissors for cutting batting for quilt kits. New members are welcome.

Historians

The Arkansas Historical Association's 77th annual conference will be Thursday through Saturday in Fort Smith. Programs and field trips will explore the conference theme of "Frontiers and Borders." Keynote talks will be given by professional genealogist Angela Walton-Raji and Kathleen Duval, professor of history at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

Walton-Raji will also will lead a two-part genealogy workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday. Session I, "Getting Started with Genealogy Research," covers genealogy basics as well as resources for Arkansas research. Session II, "Arkansas/Oklahoma Genealogy Research" will focus on resources pertaining to the Fort Smith area, including state censuses, Five Civilized Tribes records, and nineteenth-century military records. The genealogy workshop fee is $20, which includes a membership in the Arkansas Historical Association.

Conference sessions and the genealogy workshop will be held at the DoubleTree City Center in downtown Fort Smith. The conference registration fee is $10.

Whirlaways

The Ark-Oma Whirlaways square dance club will dance at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Springdale Senior Center, 203 Park St. in Springdale. Dancing will called by Kenton Sullivan, with mainstream and plus levels. All square dancers are invited, and banners will be given to visiting clubs. On May 4, Bob Loyd will be behind the microphone.

Military

The Northwest Arkansas Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America will meet at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the Lodge at Butterfield Trail Village, 1923 E. Trails

The Ozark Highlands Trail Association is leading a 4.5 mile loop hike around the south end of Mount Kessler beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday. Enter from Cato Springs Road and drive around to the north end of the soccer fields to park. Bring a sack lunch and water. The hike is rated moderate due to elevation at the beginning.

Car Club

The Mercedes-Benz Club of America, Ozark Section, will meet Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., for the South Central Region Mercedes Mixer. The Eastern Oklahoma Section will host an event at the Stokley Event Center, 10111 E. 45th Place in Tulsa, for sections in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. The event will include a car show, barbecue luncheon and a choice of going to the Woody Guthrie Center or Tulsa Botanical Gardens.

The Ozark Section members meet each month for an event. Time and location varies, depending on the nature of the event. Event categories are driving, entertainment, social, educational, charitable, technical, exhibit or awards. Owning a Mercedes-Benz is not required.

Calico Cut-Ups

The Calico Cut-Ups quilt guild of Bella Vista will meet at 1 p.m. April 23 at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive. The theme will be "Return to Learn." There will be several stations where a different aspect of quilting will be demonstrated. Some stations are reverse applique, sewing tips and gadgets, quilt as you go, hexies old and new, thread painting and hand quilting methods.

The meeting is free for members, $5 for guests.

Stage IV

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for men and women living with any type of stage IV cancer. This month's meeting is from 1 to 2:30 p.m. April 27 at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP.
