THE EGG CAME FIRST

Local yolk-els: Artful Eggshibition lets artists compete while raising money for Youth Home

It was, once again, a most egg-cellent evening: the 2018 incarnation of Youth Home's annual Eggshibition fundraiser, held April 6 in the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's Jack Stephens Center.

Greeted by event chairman Valerie Pruitt, other Youth Home board members and Chief Executive Officer David Napier, guests gathered for a patron reception, then the general event. To the tune of music by the William Staggers Trio, attendees partook of heavy hors d'oeuvres and an open bar, and bid on silent auction items that included a variety of fascinating, themed egg sculptures, hand-blown glass eggs by James Hayes, and other works of art.

Elicia Dover and Chris Kane of KATV were the evening's masters of ceremonies. A live auction included the annual Board of Directors Wine Basket as well as a custom gown by designer Linda Rowe Thomas; a fried-chicken dinner for 10 at the Little Rock Club; a chef's-table treat at The Next Course, the Youth Home benefit scheduled for Oct. 25; Rooftop Lounge Night at River Market Towers; and a painting created on-site by artist Vicki Hendrix-Siebenmorgen. Luis Ramirez and Emedalia Adame shared the story of how Youth Home helped their family.

Eggshibition is as much artist competition as auction. Winners for their egg-y efforts were Wanda Reeves Converse, first place for Moon Zephyr; Larry Talley, second place for Frog Prince; and Jon Hatton, third place for Jurassic.

Youth Home provides services for emotionally troubled adolescents and their families. Event proceeds are used for the agency's mental health programs and facilities.
