Victims identified in Hot Springs gunfire

HOT SPRINGS — The victims of a fatal double shooting April 6 have been identified, the Garland County sheriff’s office reported last week.

Police have identified Franklin McConnell Jr., 31, and his wife, Jessica McConnell, 27, as the two victims who died, while a third gunshot victim has been identified as James Long, 41.

Investigators have concluded that Franklin McConnell shot his wife and Long inside a camping trailer in the 6400 block of Park Avenue shortly before 4 a.m. April 6 and then shot and killed himself. Long survived his wounds and was in recovery, a news release said.

The sheriff’s office received a call about shots fired and someone yelling for help at 3:49 a.m. April 6, according to an earlier release. Deputies arrived at 3:56 a.m. and found an injured man, a deceased woman and a deceased man.

All of the victims appeared to have gunshot wounds, the release said. The bodies of Franklin and Jessica McConnell were sent to the state Crime Laboratory to determine a cause of death, and Long was transported to a hospital for treatment, police said.
