Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Springdale, 6738 Lynch's Prairie Court, plans its eighth annual Family History Conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. More than 30 free classes for all levels of enthusiasts are planned.

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse presents the ninth annual Mayor's Prayer Breakfast for the National Day of Prayer from 6 to 8 a.m. May 3 at First United Methodist Church in Springdale, 206 W. Johnson Ave. Hunter Yurachek, University of Arkansas athletic director, will be the featured speaker. Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at Springdale churches, the Springdale Chamber of Commerce and the Jones Center. Sponsorships are $600 each and include eight tickets. All proceeds will benefit Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale.

BENTON COUNTY

First United Methodist Church in Bentonville, 201 N.W. Second St., dedicates this Sunday to United Methodist Women, with the Rev. Jeanne Williams speaking at all three services and the Women of Song chorus performing during the traditional service.

The church offers Midweek Manna each Wednesday through April. A meal is served at 5:30 p.m., costing $5 for adults and $3 for children. Small group study and craft and activity groups meet from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

The United Methodist Men serve their semi-annual pancake breakfast from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 4. Tickets are $6, with children younger than 5 eating free.

Bella Vista Community Church, 75 E. Lancashire Blvd., hosts a National Day of Prayer breakfast for the city at 9 a.m. May 5. Guest speakers will include Bella Vista Mayor Peter Christie and Ben Rowell, a coach with the National Interscholastic Cycling Association. Participants will clean up around the church trailhead after the breakfast. A suggested donation is $5. Space is limited, so reservations are requested.

Grace Point Church in Bentonville, 1201 McCollum Drive, presents "Mindscapes and Monuments: Revelation and the Gospel," a solo art show by Dick Davison, an architecture professor at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. The works will be hung in the church's Story: The Gallery from Sunday to June 10. His works have been compared to the style of Renaissance architect Andrea Palladio and 18th-century Italian artist Giovanni Piranesi with contemporary perspectives of filmmaker Tim Burton and Swiss surrealist H.R. Giger. The exhibit is free.

Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas in Rogers, 2710 S. Rife Medical Lane, presents the Heritage Edition of the St. John's Bible on display through May 31 in the hospital lobby. Visitors may view the Bible from 6:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. each weekday. At 11:45 a.m. each Wednesday, a page of the Bible will be turned and a reflection offered.

Four Catholic health ministries collaborated to bring the Year of the St. John's Bible to Arkansas in recognition of the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Diocese of Little Rock. The St. John's Bible was commissioned in 1998 by Benedictine monks of St. John's Abbey and the University of Collegeville in Minnesota. The Bible is written on vellum, using quills, natural hand-made inks, hand-ground pigments and gilding. The art piece includes 1,165 pages and 165 illuminations.

REGION

Holiday Island Community Church, 188 Stateline Drive, offers a Bible study, "With All Your Heart," at 10 a.m. Fridays, starting May 11. The video lessons, by historian and teacher Ray Vander Laan, were filmed in the Holy Land.

The church presents singers from the Opera of the Ozarks during the 9:30 a.m. worship service for eight weeks, from May 13 to July 1.
