Windsong hosts biblical artifacts

Windsong Church of Christ, 3 Windsong Drive in North Little Rock, is hosting the Bible Lands Museum, an exhibit of 82 items associated with religious history from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and Sunday.

Items will include a reproduction of the Taylor Prism, a hexagonal clay prism inscribed with cuneiform, an ancient writing style; and a scale-size replica of the Sea of Galilee boat to represent the watercraft from the first century A.D. that was discovered off the shores of Israel in 1986.

The museum's founder, Bob Stancell, will give lectures on both days: at 6 p.m. today, "Gnostic Writings: What Documents Should Be Trusted?"; and three lectures on Sunday: 9 a.m., "The Tophet: Would a Loving God Destroy an Entire Nation?"; 4 p.m., "Enduring the Shame of the Cross: Examining Roman Crucifixion Methods"; and at 5:30 p.m., "Were the Israelites in Egypt?: Textural Proofs."

Windsong's Keith Harris, preaching minister, said the exhibit gives visitors a chance to learn about culture beyond the Bible.

"It gives us a wonderful opportunity to add something to the community and encourage folks to learn ... more about the culture of the peoples [associated with] the things that we are uncovering that seem to point to the validity of Scripture," Harris said. "It's hard to argue against artifacts that speak to some of the stories of the lives of the people of God that you read about in the Bible."
