Filling the gun-research void

By MICHAEL HILTZIK Los Angeles Times

This article was published April 22, 2018 at 2:12 a.m.

The vacuum in gun violence research in America is slowly being filled by independent organizations. The latest to accept the responsibility for studying one of our most pressing public health crises is Kaiser Permanente, the giant health-care system, which recently announced a $2 million program to study how to prevent gun injuries and deaths.

Support this 100% so long as it also researches the underlying causes. For example, the data tells us a specific demographic that is less than 5% of the population accounts for almost 60% of murder by gun in the US in areas that are less than .001% of the US land base. Why do these people commit crime so disproportionately?
.
The researchers also need to partner with the NRA. For decades the NRA has promoted gun safety to literally tens of millions of young people using its Eddie Eagle program and partnerships with state fish and wildlife departments on hunter education. The positive outcomes of these NRA lead efforts are voluminous and immeasurable.

Today's NRA is nothing at all like the NRA of generations past.

Eddie Eagle? Seriously? Might as well pass out Chick Tracts.

Hey Boltar - Another interesting statistic. 100% of the guns didn't fire by themselves.
.
So, Boltar, you agree the study should include identifying underlying causes? Would you, Boltar, support laws with reasonable expectation to decrease violent crime including crime involving guns if such laws did not involve the 2A?
.
Hey amgoo - You ever been through a hunter ed class? Ever talked to a teacher that has participated in the Eddie Eagle program? If not, your comments are based in ignorance.

Sounds like for the fellows in the turnip truck a revival of the KKK would be a positive outcome in reducing gun violence .

Depends how other gun free countries set their threshold on mass murder. UK, China, Cuba.
