Dressed for success: Arkansas Fashion School graduates get diplomas at Leading Edge event

Anna Garland, Amberly Holiman, Holley Patton and Dr. Donna Brown displayed their mad fashion designer skills -- and received their diplomas -- at A Leading Edge, an Emerging Designers Graduation Event presented by Arkansas Fashion School and held Aug. 2 in the Grand Hall of the Arkansas Governor's Mansion. The event also was an observation of the 11th anniversary of the school, opened by designer Jamileh Kamran in 2007.

Amanda Jaeger of KTHV-TV was host for the evening, which featured a keynote address by first lady Susan Hutchinson. Hutchinson wore a shimmery silver-aqua jacket dress made by Kamran.

Testimonies about the school were shared by designers and school alumnae Linda Rowe Thomas and Amanda Morley. Then came the runway show, divided into four segments featuring apparel designed by each graduate during her studies: black and deep blue after-five dresses by Garland; Holiman's mix of career wear and cocktail attire; Patton's bold evening wear and party outfits; and Brown's versatile day-into-evening pieces, which included flowing, dramatic jackets and dusters and tailored, ladylike shapes.

Afterward, Kamran presented diplomas and made closing remarks. A post-event dessert reception provided guests with the chance to meet and greet the graduates.
