Filmed over the course of five years, the Pioneers of Television series will debut "Betty White: First Lady of Television" at 7 p.m.Tuesday on AETN.

The acting legend has a career that spans 80 years. She's had roles that include Sue Ann on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, the naive Rose on The Golden Girls and the worldly Elka on Hot in Cleveland. White was the first woman to produce a national TV show, the first producer to hire a female director and the first woman to receive an Emmy nomination.

The show traces White's career from her early days in radio to her first TV series as co-host of a live, six-day-a-week variety show. She produced and starred in the sitcom Life With Elizabeth. White is an avid game player and was a much sought-after game show contestant. It was during an appearance on Password that she first met Allen Ludden, who eventually became her husband.

The special also features personal moments at home, clips from her long career and comments from friends that include Valerie Bertinelli, Georgia Engel, Valerie Harper, Gavin MacLeod, Carl Reiner, Ryan Reynolds, Alex Trebek and Tina Fey.
