• The family of the late musician Prince is suing a doctor who prescribed pain pills for him, saying the doctor failed to treat him for opiate addiction and therefore bears responsibility for his death two years ago. Prince died of an accidental overdose of fentanyl in April 2016. Authorities say Dr. Michael Schulenberg admitted prescribing oxycodone to Prince under his bodyguard's name to protect Prince's privacy, though Schulenberg has disputed that. The lawsuit in Hennepin County District Court alleges that the doctor and other defendants had the opportunity and duty during the weeks before Prince's death to diagnose his opioid addiction and prevent his death, but failed to do so. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. Schulenberg's attorney says they believe the lawsuit has no merit.

• It looks like curtains for Law and Order actress Diane Neal in her bid for a new role as congressman from a sprawling upstate New York district. The state Board of Elections has invalidated Neal's nominating petition to get on the November ballot as an independent candidate in the 19th Congressional District. The board rejected 1,852 of the 4,181 signatures on Neal's petition, leaving her 1,171 short of the needed 3,500. Neal said Friday that the board is doing the bidding of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. She said she's confident she'll succeed in her appeal to the state Supreme Court. Democrat Antonio Delgado is challenging incumbent Republican Rep. John Faso to represent the district north of the New York City metro area. Neal, who portrayed Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak on Law and Order: SVU, hasn't held political office.

Dylan Farrow is getting into the book business by releasing two young-adult novels. The story is set in a fantasy world where those in control of society use magic to change the truth. The first book, HUSH, will hit stores in fall 2020. The series will be published by Wednesday Books, which announced the news Friday. It is an imprint of St. Martin's Press. Farrow is the daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen. Farrow has said Allen molested her in an attic in 1992 when she was 7 years old. Allen has long denied the claims and was investigated but not charged. Earlier this year, Farrow gave her first on-camera interview to CBS This Morning about her allegations against the filmmaker.
