Police name man in fatal dragging

Police identified on Tuesday the man who died after a vehicle dragged him more than a half-mile Friday night near University Avenue in Little Rock.

The state Crime Laboratory identified Douglas Bruce Hayes, 60, as the man who was struck by a car around 9 p.m. Friday and dragged approximately half a mile from 5820 Asher Ave., where a bank sits, to 32nd Street and University Avenue.

It was not immediately clear if Hayes was a Little Rock resident.

Police were called to the traffic accident at 9:01 p.m., according to dispatch records.

Department spokesman officer Eric Barnes said Tuesday that officers were investigating the death as an accident.

Although details of exactly what happened to the man dragged beneath the car have not been released, Barnes said it was not a hit-and-run.

The police report for the incident had not been completed as of Tuesday evening, Barnes said.
