Art and music

The Arkansas Music & Arts Foundation's exhibition of social-justice photography goes on display during a 2nd Friday Art Night event, 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Bookstore at Library Square (formerly River Market Books & Gifts) in the Cox Building, 120 River Market Ave., Little Rock. Participants can paint pieces inspired by the work of Mark Rothko.

At 8 p.m., Quinto Poder performs at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock, part of the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies' Arkansas Sounds project. Admission is free.

Brown Christmas

Benton's Young Players Early Stages group (youngsters in grades K-6) will stage A Charlie Brown Christmas (Eric Schaeffer's stage adaptation of the Bill Melendez-Lee Mendelson television special, based on the Peanuts comic strip by Charles M. Schulz), 7 p.m. Friday, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Royal Theatre, 111 S. Main St., Benton. Tickets are $15, $12 for senior citizens, military and college students, $6 for children. Eye-out musical

Jonesboro's Foundation of Arts stages A Christmas Story -- the Musical (music and lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, book by Joseph Robinette, based on the 1983 motion picture), complete with warnings that Ralphie Parker will shoot his eye out with that Red Ryder BB gun, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Monday and Dec. 20-21 and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Forum Theater, 115 E. Natural State Band

The Natural State Brass Band will perform seasonal music at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 4106 John F. Kennedy Blvd., North Little Rock. Rico Belotti conducts the 32-member British-style brass band in a program that includes "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "Santa Claus-Trophobia," "O Holy Night" (with soprano cornet soloist Richard Bailey), "Winter Wonderland" and "Sleigh Ride."
