State index off 2.75 as rally fades out

The Arkansas Index, a price-weighted index that tracks the largest public companies based in the state, dropped 2.75 to 418.62 Thursday.

"Equities failed to sustain a midday rally and closed relatively unchanged as the market was led by the telecommunication and energy sectors," said Leon Lants, managing director at Stephens Inc. in Little Rock.

The index was developed by Bloomberg News and the Democrat-Gazette with a base value of 100 as of Dec. 30, 1997.
