21-year-old Arkansan dies in rollover crash; police say driver arrested on underage DWI charge

A driver was arrested after a rollover crash early Monday that left an Arkansas man dead, authorities said.

The one-vehicle wreck occurred about 12:40 a.m. in a field in the 500 block of Industrial Boulevard in Russellville, according to a news release from the city's Police Department.

The vehicle's driver, Alex Harper of Mabelvale, was arrested on a underage DUI charge at the time of the crash, police said, but was taken to St Mary's Regional Medical Center to be treated for injuries he suffered in the rollover. Police did not provide his age but said he was under 21.

A passenger in the vehicle — Zachary Turner, 21, of Bauxite — was reportedly also taken to the Russellville hospital but later transferred to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. Russellville police said they were notified shortly before 5:15 a.m. by the Pulaski County coroner’s office that Turner died.

Other passengers in the vehicle sustained only minor injuries or none at all but were not identified.

After an investigation into the crash, a report will be sent to the Pope County prosecutor’s office for review, according to the news release. That office will decide whether to seek additional criminal charges against Harper.
