Woodland wins playoff

Gary Woodland beat Chez Reavie with a par on the first hole of a playoff Sunday in the Phoenix Open at Scottsdale, Ariz. Woodland birdied three of the last four holes for a 7-under 64 to finish at 18-under 266 at TPC Scottsdale. Reavie closed with a 66. After a bogey on the par-3 16th, the former Arizona State player chipped to 3 feet for birdie on the short par-4 17th and ran in a 20-footer on the par-4 18th to force the PGA Tour's fourth consecutive playoff. In the playoff on the 18th, Woodland hit short of the green from the left fairway bunker and chipped to 2 feet to set up his third PGA Tour victory. Reavie missed the green left and couldn't get an 11-footer to fall. Austin Cook (Arkansas Razorbacks) shot a final-round 70 and was 7 under for the tournament. The crowd was estimated at 64,273 for a record weeklong total of 719,179.

Sharma takes 2nd title

Shubhankar Sharma of India won his second European Tour title after carding 10 birdies in a joint tournament-low 62 in the final round of the Maybank Championship on Sunday at Kuala Lumpur. Spain's Jorge Campillo was two shots adrift in second place after a closing 68 gave him a 19-under aggregate of 269, one ahead of Ryan Fox (66) and Pablo Larrazabal (66). Sharma, 21, who also won the Joburg Open in December, described 62 as his "lucky" number after finishing with a 21-under total of 267 to pocket the first prize of $500,000. Former world No. 1 Lee Westwood, who shot a 62 on Friday, ended in a tie for 11th place following a final-round 70.

Langley rebounds to win

Scott Langley shot a 5-under 65 on Sunday to come from six strokes behind and win the Web.com Tour's Panama Championship. Langley made several firsts with his victory -- he's the first in tournament history to record an over-par opening round and go on to win the tournament; he's the first graduate of a First Tee program to win on the tour; and he had the largest come-from-behind victory in tournament history, surpassing the previous 5-stroke record set in 2007 by Miguel Angel Carballo. Edward Loar and Rafael Campos each finished two strokes behind Langley. Patrick Sullivan (Maumelle, UALR) shot a 68 and finished 4 over. Taylor Moore (Arkansas Razorbacks) had a 72 and finished 5 over.

France advances to quarters

Defending champion France advanced to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup after beating the Netherlands 3-1 Sunday for its eighth victory in nine matches at home. Adrian Mannarino won the first reverse singles in Albertville, France, after 4 hours, 20 minutes of an arduous contest against Robin Haase which featured 34 break-point chances. Mannarino won 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5, 6-7 (2), 7-5 and punched the air as the French team celebrated wildly and poured water over Mannarino's head. The last first-round singles wasn't played as France clinched its World Group quarterfinal spot against host Italy in April. Fabio Fognini powered Italy to a 3-1 victory over Japan, beating Yuichi Sugita 3-6, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 7-5 in the first reverse singles. Source: Lue to stay

A person with direct knowledge of the situation said the Cleveland Cavaliers have no plans to fire Coach Tyronn Lue despite the team's recent slide. The status of Lue, the only coach to win a championship with a Cleveland team since 1964, came into question following Saturday night's 32-point home loss to Houston. However, Lue's job isn't in danger because of the need for "keeping continuity" at a challenging time, according to the person who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because of the sensitive nature of the situation. ESPN first reported that Lue's job wasn't in jeopardy. Cleveland has lost 12 of 18 and has been blown out several times in the span. Lue has been with the Cavaliers since 2016, when he replaced David Blatt midway through the season. Lue took over and guided the Cavs to a victory over Golden State in the NBA Finals.
