2 deputies hurt in central Arkansas crash, sheriff's office says; 3rd person flown to hospital

Two deputies were injured in a vehicle crash in Saline County that also resulted in another person being flown to the hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

The wreck happened around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Styles and North Sardis roads, which is in the Mabelvale area south of Little Rock, Lt. Jeff Silk of the Saline County sheriff’s office said.

Injuries to the two sheriff’s deputies, who were taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital, were not considered life-threatening. They were said to be traveling in the same patrol vehicle.

A spokesman for the sheriff's office later said the crash was not the result of a pursuit, adding that the patrol vehicle did not have its lights or sirens on at the time of the wreck.

One of the deputies had been released from the hospital Wednesday, according to the spokesman. The other had to undergo surgery Thursday but was said to be doing well that evening, and the sheriff's office expected the deputy to be released Friday.

The third person was said to be in stable condition as of Wednesday evening.
