A Louisiana man will be extradited to Arkansas on a manslaughter warrant in connection with a crash that killed an Arkansas State University student in August, authorities said.

About 7:40 p.m. Aug. 10, Jermaine Jackson, a Baton Rouge, La., resident, was driving north on U.S. 67 in Grant County in a 2015 Nissan Altima, Arkansas State Police said.

Jackson, then 32, lost control in the rain, crossed the center turning lane and hit the southbound Ford Mustang driven by 21-year-old Shelby Rhodes, who suffered fatal injuries, according to the crash report.

Rhodes was a Sheridan native and a rising senior at ASU majoring in biology and president of the school's Honors College Association, according to the university.

The state police investigation determined the presence of cannabinoids in Jackson's blood and that the Altima was traveling about 82 mph in heavy rain, the Grant County sheriff's office said in a Facebook post Friday.

Jackson has been taken into custody and will soon appear in court in Grant County, according to the sheriff's office.

"We are thankful to be able to bring some closure to this matter," the post said.
