A 20-year-old Arkansas man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison in the shooting death of a man in 2016.

Dante Reed of Blytheville on Monday entered a guilty plea to a charge of second-degree murder in the killing of 33-year-old Michael Angelo Scott.

Reed and his cousin, Jeremy Reed, each surrendered to authorities Oct. 12, 2016, a day after Scott was fatally shot. They were initially held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery.

The two men were at Scott’s Hearn Street home in Blytheville on Oct. 11, 2016, and got into an altercation with him, Capt. Scott Adams, commander of the Blytheville Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, said at the time. The two left but returned later that night before Scott was fatally shot, Adams said then.

Online court records show Jeremy Reed pleaded guilty on Monday to a single count of possession of a firearm by a certain person and was sentenced to probation.

Second Judicial Prosecuting Attorney Scott Ellington thanked the deputy prosecutor who handled the case, Gina Knight, and police investigators.

"Through the efforts of both, a murderer is now behind bars and away from the citizens of Mississippi County,” he said in a statement.
