GOLF: Arkansas women win in Puerto Rico; UCA women win in Texas

The No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks blew away the field at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic for their fourth victory of the season Tuesday, led by medalist Maria Fassi, who won the event in San Juan, Puerto Rico, for the second time.

The Razorbacks shot a final-round 12 over in windy conditions at the Rio Mar Country Club's Ocean Course and beat No. 26 Iowa State by 10 strokes for their third team victory at the event. The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville has won four of its five tournaments this season.

"I'm super proud of this group," Arkansas Coach Shauna Estes-Taylor said. "It was not only a test of our games but a test of our mental fortitude. They just did a fantastic job. It was a collaborative effort and it took everyone on the team playing their hearts out."

The Razorbacks had the low round of the tournament with an even par 284 on Sunday to jump out to an eight-shot lead.

No. 22 Kent State finished third at 45 over, followed by No. 43 North Carolina State (+52) and No. 19 Colorado (+55) in the 11-team field.

Fassi was the only player to break par in a single round with her opening 3-under 68. The junior finished the tournament at 3 over and became the third Razorback to win three events in a season, joining Stacy Lewis and Emily Tubert.

Fassi beat Celia Barquin Arozamena of Iowa State by three shots. Arkansas junior Dylan Kim tied for fifth (+8), senior Alana Uriell tied for 16th (+14), and junior Kaylee Benton and freshman Maria Hoyos tied for 20th at 15 over. Senior Jordy LaBarbera tied for 40th at 21 over.

UCA women win in Texas

The University of Central Arkansas women's team won the Texas State Invitational on Tuesday in Kyle, Texas.

The Bears finished the 54-hole tournament with an 872, finishing nine strokes ahead of Texas-San Antonio. Arkansas State University finished ninth with a 912, and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock was 17th with a 953.

Emma Svenson of Central Arkansas won the individual title with a 211 (76-68-67) while her teammate Geraldine Wong was one shot back with a 212 (69-74-69).

Arcalley Jimenez Rios of ASU finished tied for 18th with a 223 (76-72-75). Sabrina Bonanno of UALR finished tied for 31st with a 229 (79-76-74).

Henderson eighth, UAFS women 11th in San Antonio

Henderson State University and the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith's women's teams finished eighth and 11th at the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational in San Antonio.

The Lady Reddies shot a 645 and the Lady Lions shot a 653 (329-330) in the 17-team event. Dallas Baptist won with a 590 (294-290).

Individually, UAFS' Olivia Gibbs shot an 11-over 155 to finished tied for 13th.

UCA men finish 10th in Alabama

The University of Central Arkansas men's team finished 10th at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate played at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.

The Bears, who who were fourth after one round, finished their delayed second round early Tuesday with a 289 and shot a 301 in the final round for an 885 total. UCA tied with Nicholls State. Florida State won the tournament by 16 strokes with an 834, followed by South Alabama (850).

UCA senior Rodrigo Rivas shot 71-71-73 for a season-low 215 to finish 11th overall.
