UAFS scholarship woman's final gift

A $100,000 planned gift from a Fort Smith woman who died last year will support working students at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

The Sally Baum Frick Working Students Scholarship is a final gift from a woman who had already given in support of UAFS scholarships, the school's cultural arts and a student lounge.

"Sally Frick was a loving and beautiful member of the UAFS family for three decades," Chancellor Paul Beran said in a statement.

She died in August at age 85. Her husband of 25 years, financial analyst Elvin Frick, helped grow investments that included Walmart stock passed down by her father, philanthropist Charles Baum, according to UAFS.

"My job was to advise her so she'd have the wherewithal to do all the wonderful things her heart told her to do," Frick said in a statement released by the university.
