Pulaski County leader sets date for 'State of the County' address

Pulaski County Judge Barry Hyde will give his “State of the County” address at 10 a.m. March 6 at the Pulaski County Administration Building.

The speech will be inside the Quorum Court meeting room on the fourth floor of the administration building at 201 S. Broadway. It is open to the public.

Hyde will highlight the county’s 2017 accomplishments and 2018 goals and initiatives, including a crisis stabilization center, according to a news release.

Once open, the facility will be a place for law enforcement officers to take mentally ill people they encounter during their shifts. The people will be treated by medical professionals associated with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences at the center at 3001 W. Roosevelt Road.

The unit is expected to open in May.

Hyde’s speech also will touch on changes to criminal justice and juvenile justice, the news release said.

Before Hyde was elected to the top county seat in November 2014, he served in the state Legislature and started Hydco Inc,. a construction company.

Hyde, a Democrat, has said he will seek re-election.
