Sex offender registered in Arkansas called a suspect in 2002 N.C. slaying

FORT SMITH -- A registered sex offender was arrested Friday on a North Carolina warrant charging him with first-degree murder, according to a police news release.

Isaac McDonald, 42, who lived in the 600 block of South 20th Street in Fort Smith, was arrested on a Cumberland County, N.C., warrant issued Monday, the release said. He was being held in the Sebastian County jail pending extradition to North Carolina.

A North Carolina news report from 2009 said McDonald was a suspect in the 2002 murder of Janet Norris, whose body was found stuffed in a trunk in a wooded area of Cumberland County. Police believe that Norris was suffocated with a pillow at her home and left in the woods.

Sebastian County Circuit Court records showed McDonald was charged in September 2009 with knowingly exposing another person to HIV.

He was sentenced March 12, 2010, to 20 years in prison on the charge.

The news release said McDonald was on parole and that detectives contacted state parole and probation officials to find his address and arrest him.
