UA men's golf in 10th

The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville men's golf team recorded rounds of 286 and 283 on Saturday to open the SunTrust Gator Invitational in 10th place at Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

In a field that features seven nationally ranked programs, No. 5 Vanderbilt leads the way at 8 under, followed by No. 6 Florida (-7), Central Florida (-2) and No. 25 South Florida (-2).

Senior Alvaro Ortiz used a 1-under 69 in the morning and an even-par 70 in the afternoon to tie for 19th to lead the Razorbacks, while sophomore Mason Overstreet carded rounds of 71 and 72 for a tie for 39th.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

Thomas' buzzer-beater lifts UAFS

University of Arkansas-Fort Smith senior guard DaVaunta Thomas beat the buzzer with a game-winning three-pointer to lift the Lions past the St. Mary's Rattlers 78-75 in Heartland Conference play at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

The Lions (23-4, 11-4), who are ranked No. 19 in the latest NABC Division II Top 25, swept the regular-season series against the Rattlers (7-19, 3-11) and tied the school season record for victories during the NCAA Division II era. It's the third consecutive season the Lions have won 23 games.

Martin leads OBU past UAM

Mahlon Martin's three-pointer gave Ouachita Baptist University a 72-70 victory over the University of Arkansas-Monticello on Saturday in Monticello.

Kendarious Smith finished with 19 points while Martin added 11 points for the Boll Weevils (11-13, 9-10 GAC).

Tyrin Jones had 19 points for the Tigers (15-10, 10-9).

Tappin scores 34 as Henderson tops Tech

Kaylon Tappin led all scorers with 34 points as Henderson State University defeated Arkansas Tech University 83-75 on Saturday in Russellville.

Montrell Williams finished with 20 points for the Wonder Boys (15-10, 9-10 GAC).

Henderson State improved to 13-12 and 8-11.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Harding topples Southern Arkansas

Harding University used dominant post play to win its fifth consecutive game Saturday with a 63-54 victory over Southern Arkansas University at the Rhodes-Reaves Field House in Searcy.

Harding (14-13, 10-9 GAC) outscored Southern Arkansas 32-8 in the paint to win for the eighth time in its last nine games and remain alone in fourth place in the conference standings.

Southern Arkansas (8-17, 7-12) lost for the 13th time in its last 14 trips to Searcy and dropped to a tie for ninth in the GAC.

Falan Miller made four three-pointers in the first half and led Harding with 15 points.

Olivia McWilliams and Ramiah Henry both scored 13 points to lead Southern Arkansas.

Bullard keys OBU's victory over UAM

Kori Bullard picked up her fourth career double-double with a 14-point, 12-rebound effort as Ouachita Baptist University defeated the University of Arkansas-Monticello 75-72 on Saturday in Monticello.

Chasidee Owens, Madison Brittain and Alivia Huell all had 13 points for the Tigers (13-10, 9-10 GAC).

Brittnee Broadway led the Cotton Blossoms (7-17, 3-16) with 19 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists.

Arkansas Tech tops Henderson State

Cheyenne North scored 22 points, Lyrik Williams tallied 17 points and 12 rebounds, and Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse added 10 points and 10 rebounds in Arkansas Tech University's 68-65 victory over Henderson State University on Saturday in Russellville.

The Golden Suns improved to 20-3, 16-3 GAC, and the Reddies dropped to 18-7, 14-5.

UAFS falls to St. Mary's

University of Arkansas-Fort Smith junior forward Ellie Lehne scored a career-high 24 points, while sophomore guard Micayla Haynes had 17 points and junior guard Lundon Williams had 13 points in an 84-75 loss to St. Mary's at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio.

The Lions fell to 17-9 and 9-4 in the Heartland, and the Rattlers improved to 14-12 and 8-5.

BASEBALL

ASU, UALR postponed

Inclement weather and poor field conditions forced the postponement of Arkansas State University's game against Illinois State in Jonesboro and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock's game against Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., on Saturday.

Both games will be made up as part of doubleheaders today. The Trojans and Golden Eagles will start at 10:30 a.m., while the Red Wolves and Redbirds will start at 11 a.m.

UCA loses at home

Northern Illinois broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the eighth inning and added two more in the ninth Saturday to take a 6-3 victory over the University of Central Arkansas at Bear Stadium in Conway.

Samuel Vega, Hunter Bross and Jake Dunham had two hits each for Northern Illinois (1-1), while Joey Pinney went 3 for 4 with an RBI to lead Central Arkansas (1-1). Keaton Presley and Eddie Sanchez added two hits each for the Bears.

Riebock bright spot in 2 OBU losses

Freshman Tyler Riebock had four hits and an RBI to lead Ouachita Baptist University (3-9, 0-2 GAC) as it lost 5-3 and 5-2 to Oklahoma Baptist University on Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.

Pollock powers HSU to sweep

Brandon Pollock had four hits in two games to pace Henderson State University (6-3, 3-0 GAC) as it completed a three-game sweep of Southern Nazarene University (4-6, 0-3 GAC), winning 9-8 and 9-3 on Saturday in Bethany, Okla.

Hickerson helps Tech to split

After Southwestern Oklahoma State (4-5, 1-1 GAC) defeated Arkansas Tech University (6-4, 1-1 GAC) 6-2 in the opening game, Riley Hickerson's RBI double in the nightcap gave the Wonder Boys a 2-1 victory Saturday at the Weatherford Athletic Complex in Weatherford, Okla.

SOFTBALL

Leggett leads Harding to two victories

Freshman infielder Madison Leggett hit two home runs and had six RBI in two games as Harding University (5-1) defeated Upper Iowa 2-0 and Fort Hays State 8-0 in five innings on Saturday in Hays, Kan.

Tech splits in Kansas

Sydnie Henson, Ashton Sangster and Bailey Bunch each had three-hit performances, leading Arkansas Tech University (7-3) as it split a pair of games Saturday, topping the University of Missouri-St. Louis 5-3 before falling 4-3 in nine innings to Concordia-St. Paul in Emporia, Kan.
