LONOKE -- Two yeggs and the night watchman and a local telegraph operator staged a thrilling revolver fight in the street here early this morning, after the former had blown the small safe in the Lonoke postoffice. All shots went wild and none was injured. The safe was blown about 4 o'clock. The robbers failed to get any money. Night Watchman Holland was at the station talking with the operator when the explosion occurred. They went out to investigate. They saw two men at the postoffice building. As they started forward one of the yeggs ordered them to halt and opened fire.

• A gunman shot a Little Rock undercover narcotics officer three times about 9 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of the Pizza Hut, 5804 Base Line Road, during an attempted drug arrest, police said. Gregory Siegler's partner took him to Southwest Hospital. An officer there described Siegler as alert and conscious about 11 p.m. Thursday with gunshot wounds in his forehead, left forearm and right hip. "We're grateful that the wounds don't appear to be life-threatening," Lt. Charles E. Holladay, police spokesman, said.

• Little Rock's Board of Directors is expected to vote tonight on whether to classify pit bulls as potentially dangerous breeds, a move that would require pitbull owners to microchip and register their dogs if they want to keep them in the capital city. But the latest draft of legislation aimed at curbing the pit-bull population allows, for an extra fee, breeding the dogs if they're registered with the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club. Little Rock is the only first-class Pulaski County city that allows pit bulls within its limits. Jacksonville banned the breeds commonly referred to as pit bulls last year, joining North Little Rock, Sherwood and Maumelle, which have had bans for several years.
