Joseph Boeckmann, who resigned in May 2016 as a district judge, leaves the federal courthouse in Little Rock with the aid of a cane Thursday after his guilty plea. He faces sentencing in about three months, and his attorney said Boeckmann could offer evidence on his age and health to seek a lighter sentence.

A former district judge in Cross and St. Francis counties who has admitted fashioning sentences to feed his own prurient interests should be imprisoned for three years and fined $50,000, the U.S. Department of Justice argued ahead of a Wednesday sentencing hearing for Joseph Boeckmann.

It should not matter his age or health, this judge should serve time for his actions. It is reprehensible what he did to those young men, not to mention all the other laws he broke. His offenses are as serious as it gets and to let him live comfortably in his own home is not serving justice.
