Bids opened on 32 road projects

Widening a section of U.S. 167 in Calhoun County was the largest of the 32 projects on which low bids worth more than $65 million were opened Wednesday by the Arkansas Department of Transportation.

The $28.9 million bid by D&J Construction Co. LLC of West Monroe, La., was the lowest of the three bids received for the U.S. 167 project, which will widen the highway to four lanes from two lanes, beginning at Arkansas 274 and going north for 7.2 miles.

Another significant project on which bids were opened Wednesday is designed to extend the life of selected sections of U.S. 65 totaling 14.8 miles in Jefferson and Lincoln counties.

The low bid was $6.1 million by Cranford Construction Co. of North Little Rock. The project calls for replacing the asphalt on the selected sections between U.S. 425 in Pine Bluff and extending to Grady in Lincoln County.
