February has a traditionally been one of those times when studios dump their most unpromising projects into the marketplace, but could that be changing? Last year Oscar contender Get Out was released on February 24, and Black Panther was released last week, so might we expect Game Night to be more than a run-of-the-mill raunchy comedy vehicle for pleasant presences Jason Bateman and Rachel McAdams? Well, probably not, but Piers Marchant doesn’t outright dismiss the movie in his review in Friday’s Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
All the same, if there’s an “important” release this week, it might be Alex Garland’s Annihilation, a feminist war film that’s been highly anticipated in some circles.
