President Donald Trump on Thursday intensified his calls for arming highly trained teachers as part of an effort to fortify schools against shootings such as the one that occurred in Parkland, Fla., last week, even as he denounced active-shooter drills that try to prepare students to survive a rampage.

Trump wants to turn our schools into a gun friendly zone, much to the glee of the NRA and gun industry. However, more guns does not solve the problem as several studies have shown. The outlier is John Lott, a crackpot who uses his skewed numbers to sell books and garner speaking engagements with gun nuts. Many have debunked his claims and flawed numbers.
...
Regardless, the logistics and danger of arming teachers, alongside the expense and personal burden, makes this a bad solution to a problem brought on because a gun industry and gun nuts insist on selling and buying assault weapons used in almost every mass shooting. There is no rational reason for these guns other than to satisfy a fetish and fantasy of being a "warrior."
...
When our education spaces become war zones because of this push, we are becoming more like Syria and less like many of the developed nations of the world. WE are the only nation with this problem and WE are the only developed nation that allows people to own these type weapons without major restrictions. There's a correlation here and the NRA and gun nuts seek to divert the issue to hide that correlation.
...
Over the past few days, I've seen some pretty bizarre and dumb comments from the gun nuts, most without research or merit. Secure the schools, but no mention of how to fund that security in districts that are already financially burdened. Enforce the laws, disregarding the fact that all laws were enforced as best they could be. There have even been distortions on the legal basis of the Second Amendment, which has already been so distorted to fit an industry our founders would probably not recognize it today.
...
It is time to re-enact the only proven and measurable deterrent to deaths incurred in mass shootings, the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban. It was extremely successful aside for one incident in the entire ten years it was in effect. That incident had many other issues unrelated to the AWB which makes it an outlier regarding the ban. Other countries around the world do not have the problem we have in the US and have accomplished this through their own AWBs.

Some schools are so short on funding they are going to a four day eek. Somehow the gun nuts want you to think they are going to magic up money for insurance, accidental death lawsuits, guns, ammo, ongoing training. etc.
*
Anyone who advocates a math teacher with a handgun going up against an AR15 has no grasp of ballistics.
*
This fantasy appeals only to gun nuts and simpletons.

I figure if a teacher wanted to be in the policing business, that person would not have become a teacher. Another bad proposal coming from the Trumpet. As far as the NRA goes, they have only one thing in mind, the money they take in from their membership, and the power it gives them to buy politicians.

What's next -- arming the children. At least gun dealers will get more money and stimulate the economy.

I've had some traing and I can help out, just keep me in bullets, hahahurhur. I'm going to buy some more guns today or tomorrow. I really like the Glock 9 pistol with the larger clip. There is a rifle that takes the same clip so the two are interchangeable and it breaks down in the middle so it easily fits in a backpack.
The golden light has really glowing brightly from the President the last couple days. He is exactly right we need to harden our schools. The dimwitted communists don't want to solve the problem, they want to get Real Americans guns and do away with the Constitution. They could care less about children, they are gay-loving. Every country throughout history who has banned citizen gun ownership has gone communist/dictatorship. IMHO we don't have a gun problem we have a Christian/God hating, dimwit communist/vermin problem.
May the Creator of All there is or ever will Be give us the strength to overcome our enemies and may they be sent where they can do no harm. May God Bless President Donald Trump and may God Bless America.

What if it's the teacher that snaps and goes on a rampage?? Not a good idea to arm teachers. And if that deputy had run in and gotten himself killed he'd be hailed as a hero, but he'd be dead. Nobody knows how they'll react in that situation.

Lot of grumbling about our President, not one comment with any kind of answer to the problem. Laws already in place with processes to protect if followed. Would have prevented the shooting in FL. When are folks going to start doing their job?

Only one thing "appeals" to you liberal progs and that is gun "control". You're opposed to any real solution other than achieving your objective. You claim to be concerned about national debt yet when costs for potentially saving children's lives comes up, you're against it because of the "costs". How much is a child's life "worth" to you people? We have to pass through detection devices to board a plane, go into certain buildings, attend sporting events, etc., why not schools? There are practical solutions but you libs don't have one yet.

I know there is a lot of ideas about on this planet orbiting around our sun to deal with the gun issues. Yet as to the children being saved, apparently this is part of some plan as the grand council up "there" sets with hands crossed while slaughter, death and tears have a holiday here.

Yes no one knows how they would react when faced with a shooter or a bunch of shooters and certain death is facing you-- well other than sea bass 1 to the head and 2 to the chest..... it dont go exactly like that . Are we able to criticize this deputy-- since he is a member of law enforcement, I mean I believe most here are not members of black lives matter, so that is a complicated question knowing many on the right have started to chastise Law enforcement , a right not reserved to anyone else but them.

Also remember most on the right complain about teachers being overpaid. Do you want entities that are overpaid with weapons?

JWS what law was not followed in FL that could have reasonably been followed? I’ve offered a solution that has proven to work, but folks like you don’t want to consider it. Reinstate the AWB of 1994.
