STATE OF THE ART

By design: UALR’s new Windgate Center opens with fanfare, fundraiser

The public was invited to inspect a new building at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and help raise scholarship funds for art and design students at CRE8 [short for Create] on Feb. 16. The festivities took place throughout the new Windgate Center of Art + Design, which opened for classes in January.

The evening started with a VIP champagne reception in the lobby followed by tours of the building and demonstrations by students and instructors in the applied design and visual arts programs.

The 64,600-square-foot center was made possible with a $20.3 million gift from the evening's honoree, the Windgate Charitable Foundation. The new building brings applied design and visual arts classes under the same roof. It is equipped with state of the art exhaust and filtration systems, museum-quality climate control in the two art galleries and Wi-Fi and LED lighting throughout.
