The crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed bin Zayed, welcomed two prominent Arkansans to the United Arab Emirates this month.

On Feb. 17, he visited with U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton at al Bahr Palace. Five days later, he met with former President Bill Clinton at Al Shati Palace, according to news reports.

Cotton, a Republican from Dardanelle, serves on the Senate Intelligence Committee and was part of a congressional delegation to the region. Topics included Iran, Qatar and Yemen, a spokesman said.

Clinton and the crown prince "discussed joint cooperation and relations of friendship binding the two countries, stressing shared keenness on bolstering joint ties," the Bahrain News Agency reported.

In addition to being the son of the Emirates' founding president, bin Zayed serves as deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
