Rutledge speaks at annual CPAC event

Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge addressed the Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Md., on Friday. She was included in a segment titled: "We Refuse to Be Suckers: The New Trump Doctrine."

The annual CPAC event draws activists from across the country. Other Arkansas Republicans who have spoken there in recent years include U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton, Gov. Asa Hutchinson, Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and former Gov. Mike Huckabee.

National Harbor, 10 miles south of the White House, is one of the fastest-growing areas in suburban Washington. The multibillion-dollar development overlooks the Potomac River.

Rutledge's speech came shortly after an appearance by President Donald Trump. She used her time to denounce the sanctuary cities movement and to emphasize her Trump ties.

Rutledge told the crowd that she was the "only elected official in Arkansas who was a Trump delegate in 2016."

Describing herself as a "Christian, pro-life, gun-carrying conservative woman," she said, "God-fearing, flag-waving, conservative Americans" don't share the vision of "far-left politicians" like former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
