Senator finalist for constituent award

The office of U.S. Sen. John Boozman is a finalist for one of the Congressional Management Foundation's Democracy Awards.

The Republican from Rogers is a finalist in the "constituent services category" along with U.S. Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind.; U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, R-Pa.; Rep. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Calif.; Rep. Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz.; and Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga.

Winners will be announced in May.

The foundation -- a nonpartisan, nonprofit group -- noted Boozman's support of the Veterans History Project, which collects the stories of former servicemen and forwards them to the Library of Congress.

Boozman's office has trained more than 400 volunteers. The senator has interviewed two of the veterans, and his staff members have interviewed dozens more, the foundation noted.

The Arkansas lawmaker also was praised for a Facebook video "educating constituents on how they can seek the office's assistance with problems they are experiencing with federal agencies and others."

The foundation, which seeks to promote best management practices, also gave Boozman high marks for pairing members of his state and Capitol Hill offices, a move it said enhances coordination and improves responsiveness.

"As a finalist in Constituent Service for a Democracy Award, Sen. Boozman's office is clearly one of the best in Congress," said Bradford Fitch, the foundation's president and CEO.
