Pickup involved in 2 head-on crashes on Arkansas highway; state police say 1 car's driver killed

An Arkansas man was killed and two other people were injured after the same pickup was involved in two head-on crashes Tuesday morning on a highway in the state's north, police said.

The three-vehicle wreck happened around 6:30 a.m. as Cody A. Thomas, 26, of Gassville was traveling north on U.S. 65. through Bellefonte in Boone County, according to a report.

Thomas was said to be driving a 2010 Ford Focus behind a 2005 Toyota Camry.

Police say a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado traveling south on the highway crossed over the turn lane into the northbound lanes, striking the Camry head-on. The impact caused the Silverado to hit the Focus head-on as well, the report states. Thomas suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.

Two other people were reported injured. They were not named in the report, and the extent of their injuries were not listed.

State police said conditions were clear and dry at the time of the wrecks.

Thomas' death was one of at least 47 recorded so far on Arkansas roads this year, according to preliminary figures.
