The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday again turned down former Circuit Judge Michael Maggio’s plea that it consider an appeal of his federal bribery conviction.

Maggio’s attorney, John Wesley Hall, says Maggio’s only hope now is to argue ineffective assistance of counsel in U.S. District Court in Little Rock. That is where Maggio pleaded guilty to bribery in January 2015 and later tried unsuccessfully to withdraw that plea.

Maggio began serving a 10-year prison sentence in 2017.

Hall’s appointment as Maggio’s attorney ends Monday, and it’s not yet known if the district court will reappoint him or someone else to the case.
