Police: Gunman tries to rob Little Rock sporting goods store, flees when employee says she can't open cash register

An armed robber who tried to hold up a Little Rock sporting goods store Tuesday left after an employee told him the cash register was locked, authorities said.

According to a report from the city's Police Department, officers responded to Hibbett Sports at 6420 Colonel Glenn Road shortly after 6:45 p.m.

When they arrived, a 26-year-old employee told them that the male assailant entered the business and approached her, pointing a handgun in her face.

The would-be robber then reportedly gestured with the weapon toward the cash register. The worker said she put her hands up and told him the register was locked.

When he heard she couldn't open it, the gunman fled toward the Kroger in the shopping center's parking lot, the report states.

The assailant was described as a black male who stands 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. No suspects were named and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
