OMFG...This kid never had a chance with no father and a mom like that. I don’t understand how he wasn’t already in prison for the previous armed robberies. He was clearly a violent and dangerous young man who died as he lived.

Judge Carlton Jones believed Smith could be rehabilitated.

Evidently you were wrong, Judge.
And more armed robberies and pistol whippings followed.
(plus shooting at a police officer)

When are judges going to take armed robbery seriously?
After a rap sheet with so many violent crimes where a firearm was used, yet he was still free and only confined by a curfew he ignored.

I hope Judge Carlton Jones takes armed robbery more seriously in the future for the safety of law abiding citizens !

I would love to know how many other minors/juveniles who are guilty of gun-related crimes are out on ‘curfew.’ They should have to wear ankle monitors that are automatically activated during curfew hours. Clearly, the honor system and parental oversight are not enough.

Wow. Doesn't sound like such a "sweet kid" and normal family to me. Sounds like a little thug who was on the wrong path because he had no one with any morals to lead him. Sad.

Forget about new gun control laws.
Let's put some real teeth into the existing laws and make the penalty for committing a violent crime with a firearm stiff.
Any repeat offense and a lengthy prison sentence.

This thug was still free with only a 5pm curfew restriction that he ignored.
Shame on the judges !

I am glad Asa wants to spend extra money on social services. It is amazing how people can be so mean at such a young age. A condition for parole should be mandatory birth control. Most criminals came from abusive homes with unfit parents. I'm glad that the NLRPD took this kid off the streets.
