65-year-old driver dies after losing control of pickup, striking oncoming vehicle in Arkansas

A 65-year-old driver died after his pickup crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a vehicle on a rain-soaked Arkansas road Thursday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened around 3:10 p.m. as Michael Evans of Memphis was traveling east on U.S. 64 about 5 miles east of Marion, according to a preliminary report.

The Arkansas State Police say Evans lost control of his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado, causing it to cross the centerline and hit a westbound 2014 Lexus LS 460.

Evans died as a result of the crash, according to authorities. One other person was listed as being hurt, though the report didn't identify the person or note the extent of the injuries.

Travel conditions at the time were described as rainy.

Evans’ death was one of three recorded so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
