Hawkins sparks LR Fair from long range

Mikalen Hawkins made his sixth three-pointer to start the fourth quarter to break a 29-29 tie, leading Little Rock Fair to a 54-39 victory over visiting Pulaski Academy on Friday night in 6A/5A-4 play.

Hawkins, who finished with a game-high 20 points, also had six assists, often dishing off to Mickael Foust who had 16 points for Fair (13-2, 3-1). Foust also made a steal and completed a three-point play on a dunk to highlight Fair's offensive push in the first quarter.

Fair led 16-9 after the first quarter, but Pulaski Academy made a run in the second quarter to outscore Fair 9-7. Amir Mahmound completed back-to-back three-point plays to cut the Pulaski Academy deficit to 23-18 at halftime.

After Foust opened the third quarter with a one-handed dunk, Fair's turnovers mounted. Six times down the court, Pulaski Academy's defense made four steals and forced two errant passes. On the offensive end, Pulaski Academy (8-4, 1-2) started an 11-2 run on two 17-foot jumpers from Grayson Koller and a three-point play from Griffin Newby.

Newby's three-point play allowed Pulaski Academy to take its first lead, 27-26, with 2:12 left in the third period.

Ej Anderson, who led Pulaski Academy with 12 points, drove the lane for an acrobatic layup to keep them ahead 29-28, but Fair tied the game on a free throw as the quarter ended.

Hawkins regained the lead for Fair on his three-pointer to start the fourth quarter. A 9-2 run during a three-minute span allowed Fair to take a 42-35 lead, capped by a dunk for two of Deaveon Bankston's 11 points.
