Arkansas man, 24, dies in three-vehicle collision on U.S. highway

A 24-year-old man from Springdale died Sunday after his vehicle crossed the centerline of a U.S. highway and hit two other vehicles, authorities said.

Albert J. Mellow was driving a 1995 Toyota west on U.S. 62 shortly before 9 p.m. when his vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes, according to an Arkansas State Police report. It then hit the left front of an eastbound 2011 Chevrolet before spinning and striking the front of an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet, police said.

Mellow suffered fatal injuries. The report said two other people were hurt, though it didn't identify them or indicate the extent of their injuries.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death was one of five so far this year in traffic crashes on Arkansas roads, according to preliminary figures.
