Gluten-free bakery set to open in Hot Springs used shuttered hotel as inspiration, owners say

A new bakery coming to Hot Springs says it will offer sweet treats with a side dish of local history.

According to its owners, Majestic Bakery and Cafe plans to open Feb. 27 — the same day the oldest, yellow-bricked portion of the Majestic Hotel was destroyed in a fire.

The hotel, which was built in 1882 and closed in 2006, and its soda shop serve as the inspiration for the cafe's name and atmosphere, founders Brenda Brandenburg and Wally Mueller said in a video posted to the Facebook page.

Brandenburg rallied for the historic hotel's renovation before it was ultimately torn down in 2016.

"My dream was to save the Majestic, so we want to find some old pictures and old memorabilia from the Majestic to decorate with," Brandenburg said in the video.

The cafe will be located at 250 Park Ave. and offer solely gluten-free goods, according to the founders.

According to its Facebook page, the cafe will offer lunch and pastries as well as beer, wine and ciders. It will also be available for booking for private parties in the evenings and offer birthday and wedding cakes.
