Arkansas moves up to No. 10

The Arkansas gymnastics team moved up one spot to No. 10 in the RoadtoNationals.com weekly rankings Monday after posting a 196.525, the third-highest home-opening score in school history, in a loss to Kentucky on Friday.

The Razorbacks (0-2 overall, 0-2 SEC) travel to No. 24 Missouri on Friday. Arkansas ranks No. 4 on the balance beam

(49.2 average) and No. 8 on the vault (49.05).

SEC teams comprise half of the top 10 with No. 1 LSU; Florida and Kentucky, which are both No. 5; and No. 9 Alabama joining the Razorbacks in the rankings, which are based now on average scores.

BASKETBALL

Day to speak at Tip Off Club

Former Arkansas Razorback and Philander Smith University men’s basketball Coach Todd Day will be the guest speaker at the Downtown Tip Off Club today.

The Tip Off Club’s luncheon will be held at the North Little Rock Chamber of Commerce from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Day, who played at Arkansas from 1988-1992 and in the NBA from 1992-2001, was hired by Philander Smith, an NAIA school in Little Rock, in 2016. The Panthers entered Monday’s game at Tougaloo College (Miss.) at 6-8, including a 1-1 record in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. Day led Philander Smith to a 16-13 record in 2016-2017.

The luncheon cost is $25 per person.

UALR’s DeGray honored by Sun Belt

University of Arkansas at Little Rock junior forward Ronjanae DeGray was named the Sun Belt Conference women’s Player of the Week on Monday.

In the Trojans’ two victories over Texas-Arlington and Texas State, DeGray averaged 18.5 points. She had 14 points against the Mavericks on Thursday and tied a season-high with 23 points against the Bobcats on Saturday.

UCA’s Orr named Southland’s top player

University of Central Arkansas junior guard Kamry Orr was named the Southland Conference women’s Player of the Week on Monday.

Orr averaged 29.5 points in two victories over Incarnate Word on Wednesday and Nicholls State on Saturday. She had 27 points at Incarnate Word and 32 points at Nicholls State.

Arkansas Tech defeats Harding

The Arkansas Tech University women’s basketball team defeated Harding University 77-64 on Monday in Searcy.

Ke’Vonshaye Stackhouse led the Golden Suns (11-2, 7-2 GAC) with 22 points. Jayana Sanders had 20 points.

Kellie Lampo led the Bisons (6-11, 2-7) with 15 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Layrock added 11 points.
