2 duck hunters rescued after boat capsizes on frigid Arkansas River, authorities say

Two duck hunters were rescued by other outdoorsmen after their boat capsized Tuesday morning on a frigid Arkansas River, authorities said.

The Faulkner County sheriff’s office and Arkansas Game and Fish Commission were called around 9 a.m. to the Palarm Creek access area off Arkansas 365.

The pair ran into mechanical issues on their boat as they tried to get it running, causing the watercraft to capsize and end up on a sand bar, sheriff’s office spokesman Adam Bledsoe said.

Bledsoe said one hunter was knocked out of the boat while the other ended up on dry land.

Both were rescued by fellow duck hunters nearby on the Arkansas River, according to authorities. No one was reported injured.

Temperatures at the time of the rescue effort, which lasted up to 30 minutes, were said to be in the teens.
