The Central Arkansas Library System is rolling out “tech” library cards to students at six Little Rock schools to allow them access to digital resources at home and school.
The system will announce the details of its new partnership in a joint news conference with the Little Rock School District at 10 a.m. Friday. The announcement will be at Main Library at 100 Rock St. in downtown Little Rock, on the fourth floor.
“Tech cards” allow access to the library’s digital resources, including newspaper databases; online learning tools like Lynda.com; foreign language courses; prep tests for the ACT, SAT and driver’s license test; audio books and ebooks; music and movies.
The library said the card will give students access to its “virtual branch.”
Little Rock’s Bale and Mabelvale elementary schools, Horace Mann and Dunbar middle schools, and Parkview and Hall high schools have been chosen to be a part of the pilot program.
Friday’s rollout will feature marketing content created by students. Students entered their work to be chosen by using the hashtag #ItsAllHere on Twitter. Students also will participate in a digital scavenger hunt at the event, using the library’s new student portal on its website, cals.org.
Library System Executive Director Nate Coulter and School District Superintendent Michael Poore will be at the event.
