Vilonia hires Mayflower's Langrell

Vilonia has hired Mayflower coach Todd Langrell as its new coach.

Langrell led Mayflower to a 2-3A Conference championship in 2017.

Vilonia went 1-9 in 2017 and 1-6 in the 5A-West Conference under Ron Young.

Ozarks cruises past Arlington Baptist

Five players scored 10 or more points Wednesday as the University of the Ozarks women defeated Arlington Baptist College 93-82 in Clarksville.

Hailey Ostrander hit six three-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Ozarks (2-12). Diamond Goodwyn added 18 points and Kamryn McKinney had 17, while Destinee Manning and Cassie Emerson chipped in 13 each.

WBC receives highest ranking ever

The Williams Baptist College men's team was ranked third in the NAIA Coaches Poll released Wednesday, the highest ranking ever for the program.

Grand View (Iowa) and Missouri Valley remain the top two teams in the poll, while Williams Baptist moved up two spots. Cumberland (Ky.) is fourth in the poll and Indiana Tech slipped two spots to number five.

Ten individual Williams Baptist wrestlers are ranked in their respective weight classes, led by defending national champion Demetrius Thomas, who ranks second in the 285-pound class. All-American Tyler Fraley is third in the 149-pound class, while Joshua Chiles (184 pounds), Nicholas Drendel (157 pounds) and Tanner Irwin (133 pounds) all rank fifth in their classes.

ASU's Bacon earns conference honor

Arkansas State University sprinter Jaylen Bacon broke his own school record in the 200-meter dash last weekend, earning him Sun Belt Conference Track Athlete of the Week honors Wednesday.

Last weekend at the Kentucky Invite in Lexington, Ky., Bacon won the 200 with a time of 21.14 seconds, bettering his previous school record by .02 seconds. He also won the 60 in 6.66 seconds.

Bacon ranks seventh in the country after his 200 victory. He also ranks fifth nationally in the 60 (6.65 seconds) and 14th in the 400 (47.63 seconds converted). All three marks are the best in the Sun Belt Conference.
