Ostomates

The Northwest Arkansas Ostomy education and support group will meet at 2 p.m. today at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave., Springdale. There will be a 1 p.m. educational meeting. BenCo Dems

Benton County Dems meet from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Golden Corral in Rogers with program at noon featuring Jon Comstock, who draws from Deborah Tannen's book, "The Argument Culture," to describe how the adversarial nature of our society impacts our relationships, ability to solve problems and public discourse in the press, politics and the law. Tannen's book is used as a platform for looking at how we can move beyond the argument culture to more constructive dialogue about important issues in our lives.

SUV

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War group has changed the date of its monthly meeting to Monday. The meeting will be held at Foghorns Restaurant, 2221 W. Walnut in Rogers. Dinner will be at 6 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War is a fraternal organization honoring the heritage of those who fought for the United States during the Civil War. The meeting is open to all.

Democrats

The Washington County Democratic Women will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mermaids Restaurant in Fayetteville. Sen. Joyce Elliott will speak about the challenges of being a woman in politics, how women can win more seats in Arkansas and how her reelection campaign is going.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Optional buffet dinner is available for $16. Reservations are required for dinner.

Garden Club

The Bentonville Garden Club will hold a meeting on at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Circle of Life Hospice in Bentonville. The program for this month will be how to upcycle items around the house to use as decor for your home or garden. There will also be a report by the ways and means committee.

QUILT

Quilters United in Learning Together will kick off the new year at 6 p.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 2898 S. 48th St. in Springdale, with a trunk show by Kathy Kansier. Kansier, a southwest Missouri resident, is a teacher and certified quilt appraiser. She was a nominee for teacher of the year in 2001 and in 2008 was awarded the prestigious Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for quilting teachers. Her book Ozark Varieties is a favorite among applique enthusiasts.

Roundtable

The Northwest Arkansas Civil War Roundtable will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday at the General Store on the grounds of the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History, 118 W. Johnson St. in Springdale. The program will be presented by Michael S. Powers from the University of Arkansas history department. He will speak on Confederate relations with Latin America.

The program is free and open to anyone with an interest in Civil War history.

Hope Cancer Resources offers a support group for men and women living with any type of stage IV cancer. This month's meeting will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at Hope Cancer Resources, 5835 W. Sunset Ave. in Springdale. Members must RSVP.

Hikers

Enjoy a 5K or 10K paved-trail, wooded walk around Pea Ridge National Military Park with the Ozark Hill Hikers, affiliated with the American Volkssport Association, on Saturday. Meet at the park's visitor center between 9:30 and 10 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. In case of last-minute time changes or possible weather cancellation, please check our website calendar.

PFLAG

Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays of Northwest Arkansas will hold a free screening of the film Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric, produced by National Geographic, from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Fayetteville Public Library in Fayetteville.

The film presents an in-depth look at the role of genetics, modern culture and brain chemistry on gender fluidity. Couric travels the United States to talk with families, scientists, psychologists and educators about the complex issue of gender. PFLAG issues a special invitation to parents, family members and friends of anyone who is transgender or gender fluid. Participants can ask questions during a moderated discussion following the film. PFLAG will serve simple refreshments and have a drawing for door prizes.

Stroke Support

New Beginnings Stroke Support Group will meet at 2:15 p.m. Feb. 1 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital, 153 E. Monte Painter Drive in Fayetteville. The group meets on the first Thursday of each month. Support, education and light snacks are provided.

Blood Cancer

This supportive and educational group is for adult patients, caregivers, families and friends coping with leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, MDS or other blood cancers. The group meets from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 at Hope Cancer Resources in Springdale.

Ham Radio

The Bella Vista Ham Radio Club meets at 11 a.m. on the first Thursday of every month at Highland Christian Church. Meetings are open to the public, and new members are welcome. The club also offers amateur radio license testing through the American Radio Relay League at 2 p.m. on the second Saturday of each month at the church.

Artists

The Bella Vista Decorative Artists meet at 9 a.m. the second Saturday of each month for a business meeting and painting session at Wishing Spring Studio at 8862 W. McNelly Road, next to Walgreens. The purpose of the chapter is to stimulate interest and appreciation for the art of painting.

BVDA also does a variety of service projects. This year, the chapter is working with the Village House in Bella Vista, Children's Shelter and making memory boxes for local hospitals.

Each month BVDA has a chapter member or a visiting national artist teach an art project in acrylics, oils, watercolor or mixed mediums. Painters of all skill levels make up the chapter.

Pride of the Ozarks Barbershop Chorus meets from 7 to 9 p.m. every Thursday at Innisfree Senior Living Community, 300 Innisfree Circle in Rogers. Males of any age, color or creed who enjoy a capella singing are welcome and invited. Vocal music experience is helpful.

A new 12-step group, Codependents Anonymous, will begin meetings at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 224 N. East Ave. in Fayetteville. There are no dues or fees for CoDA membership.
