Arkansan dies after Audi travels off bridge landing, lands on its top in water

A Northwest Arkansas man died after the car he was driving traveled off a bridge landing and became submerged in water, police said.

The crash happened around 10:50 p.m. Thursday as Dustin W. Dillard, 30, of Rogers tried to merge onto Riviera Road from Medical Center Parkway in Bentonville.

Dillard pulled the emergency brake on a 1999 Audi A6, causing the vehicle to slide out of control off the side of a bridge landing, according to an Arkansas State Police report.

Police said the car landed on its top and became submerged in water.

Dillard died as a result of the crash, according to authorities. No other injuries were reported.

Travel conditions at the time were said to be clear and cold.

Dillard’s death was one of at least 10 recorded so far this year on an Arkansas road, according to preliminary figures.
