Arkansas offensive line signee Silas Robinson was able to see his future home for the first time on his official visit over the weekend.

“It was great,” said Robinson, who committed and signed with Arkansas before he ever took a visit to Fayetteville. “I loved everything about it. The campus is awesome, the facilities are top-notch, and I like the town of Fayetteville.”

Robinson (6-4, 315 pounds) of Yoakum, Texas, committed to Chad Morris and SMU in June over scholarship offers from Virginia, BYU, Rice, Army, Texas State and others.

Two days after he was hired by Arkansas last month, Morris extended an offer to Robinson, who soon swapped his pledge to the Razorbacks.

An avid hunter and fisher, Robinson felt at home soon after arriving in Arkansas.

“We got off the plane and got into the car and drove through some hills and creeks, and I saw a lot of lakes and rivers on the plane flying over. I loved that, and I’m excited to be here,” Robinson said.

Robinson, who was named to the USA Today Texas All-State team, graded at 98 precent and recorded 73 knockdowns while allowing only one sack during the regular season. He graded at 97 precent and had 21 knockdowns and allowed no sacks in the playoffs.

Because he’s had a longstanding relaltionship with the Arkansas coaching staff, the other official visitors were told to talk to Robinson and his parents if they had any questions about the staff.

“They made a point in the meeting to tell everybody, 'If you have any questions about this staff, ask the Robinson family,' because I signed before I’ve even been here and the trust we have with the coaching staff,” Robinson said.

Robinson comes from a family with a rich football tradition, His father, Bo, was an All-Southwest Conference defensive end at Texas in 1992 and played six seasons in the NFL. He is now the head coach at Yoakum. His late grandfather Wendell was inducted into the Texas High School Football Coaches Association's Hall of Honor in 2002.

“They passed the torch to me,” said Robinson, who is being recruited to play center or guard. “I try not to pass it up and make sure I’m as successful as they are.”
