Authorities: North Little Rock officer nearly run over by Mercedes-Benz reported stolen earlier that day

A Mercedes-Benz reported stolen from a Little Rock auto repair shop Monday morning was the same car whose driver tried to run over a police officer later that day, authorities said.

About 7:45 a.m., police were called to Donnie's Foreign Car Service, 104 Markham Park Drive, where the owner and an employee said the business had been burglarized overnight, according to a report.

A black 2002 Mercedes-Benz was missing along with the ignition key to a Volkswagen Passat that was at the shop for repairs, police were told.

Authorities reportedly determined that the burglar or burglars pried open the business's front door and moved a pallet of parts from behind the Mercedes-Benz before prying the door open and leaving in that car.

The thief or thieves also entered a different black Mercedes-Benz parked inside the shop and left the key on the seat, the report states.

About 3:40 p.m. the same day, the stolen car's driver attempted to run over a North Little Rock police officer who was trying to pull the vehicle over, according to the report. Authorities pursued the car but were unable to stop it.

Police have named no suspects, and no arrests had been made at the time of the report.
