2 men killed in state vehicle accidents

Two men were killed in traffic accidents on state roadways Sunday and Monday, authorities said.

A Mountain Home man died and two other people were injured in a head-on crash Monday night on a highway in Baxter County in the state's north, the Arkansas State Police said.

The wreck happened around 8:30 p.m. as Joseph Stephen, 25, was traveling north on Arkansas 177 in Jordan, according to a preliminary state police report.

Stephen's northbound 1997 Honda Accord crossed the centerline, striking a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.

Stephen was killed. The two other people reported injured were not identified in the report.

On Sunday, a 67-year-old man died after he was hit by a sport utility vehicle as he crossed a street near his home in southwest Little Rock, authorities said.

James Kilgore was struck by a northbound Hyundai Santa Fe shortly before 9:30 p.m. as he walked on Wimbledon Loop near an apartment complex south of Baseline Road, according to a Little Rock Police Department report released Tuesday.

Kilgore was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries, police said.

The 47-year-old driver of the Hyundai submitted to a drug test, and those results were pending.

The police report listed the Little Rock man's condition as appearing normal.

He was not injured in the crash.

Authorities noted that the crash remained under investigation.

The weather was said to be clear, and roads dry at the time of both crashes.
