Authorities: 4-year-old in stable condition after shooting himself in face in Arkansas

A 4-year-old boy is expected to live after accidentally shooting himself while inside a parked vehicle in southeast Arkansas, police said.

About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, the Warren Police Department received a call that a child had shot himself in the face on South Martin Street.

The boy was transported to Bradley County Medical Center in Warren before being flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock in critical condition, Sgt. Tim Nichols said.

Nichols, citing information from family members, said the child was in stable condition Thursday morning.

The gun used had been kept in a purse belonging to the child’s mother that fell off the vehicle’s center console, according to authorities.

No charges are anticipated, Nichols said.
